This week I want to look at a book of the Bible that never mentions the name of God. When I first heard this I thought it was more than a little weird that a writing that didn't mention God would end up in the Bible, but the more I thought about it and the more I looked at the scripture the more it made sense to me.The book is the book of Esther, found in the Old Testament between Nehemiah and Job. The book of Esther is 167 verses long and tells the story of a Jewish girl that becomes Queen of Persia and while in that position foils an evil plot to wipe out the Jews. It is an amazing story of how God works in peoples lives in order to prepare them to do things they never would have dreamed of doing. I suggest that you read the story to fully understand what I am talking about. But the actual story isn't the point of this study. The fact that God was never mentioned in the 167 verses that make up this story is really the point. As you read throught the story of Esther you see some things happen that obviously show the hand of God moving yet the writer never really attributes the credit to God. I feel there is an important lesson to learn in that. If you look at your life there are probably things that just don't make sense, whether good or bad we all have those experiences that don't make sense at the time. But if you look back on those experiences a few years later it is obvious that they prepared you for where you are now. I have a bunch of these experiences that if I were to talk about them here would fill up pages upon pages. The point is we all have these experiences and whether you call it a coincidence or destiny or whatever, the Truth is that God is at work. Whether you want to give God the credit or not doesn't stop Him from being involved in your life. Whether you obey God or not or even acknowledge that He is real doesn't change the fact that He is chasing after you and trying to bring you back into a relationship with Him. I gues what I would like you to think about is if God is really who the Bible says He is and He is working in your life wouldn''t it be good to begin to see that and follow Him? Just like in the story of Esther I think we all go through life and never really acknowledge God, yet He is obviously there working. Sometimes we don't see it and quite often we don't understand it but it is happening whether you acknowledge it or not. If you would like to investiagte who God is and what that means to you a little more please plan to attend our Bible Study. We meet each Wednesday from 7-8pm in the classrooms above Autumn. Hopefully I will see you there. -Jeremiah Anderson Click here for other entries. |
