Have you ever had someone who you trusted betray you? Have you ever had someone that you told your deepest secrets to turn around and stab you in the back? Have you ever had someone really close to you just turn on you? How did you deal with it? How should we deal with it? Well, this week let's look at how someone who was betrayed to the point of losing his life dealt with it. Most everyone who has heard about Jesus' life knows who Judas was. Judas was one of Jesus' twelve disciples, these were the guys that Jesus had pulled in and told everything to, he had allowed them to see amazing miracles, he had traveled with, them taught them and trusted them. In fact Judas was the one they trusted with the money bag. It seems that Jesus trusted Judas and yet when it came right down to it Judas turned Jesus over to the rulers that wanted him dead. But Judas wasn't the only one to turn on Jesus. As the mob came to arrest Jesus all of the disciples ran away one of them was so scared that he lost his clothing as he escaped and ran off into the darkness naked. There was Jesus having been betrayed by one of his closest friends while the rest of his friends ran away scared.
It is interesting to me that Jesus was betrayed by everyone that he called friend, yet after his resurection he sent these same guys out to tell the entire world about his story. Do you think that you would trust someone enough after being betrayed to allow them to tell the world your story? Think of the pain that Jesus experienced as he faced death alone yet as he hung on a cross dying he asked God to forgive the people that had just beat him and drove nails through his hands and feet. Do you have the ability to forgive on that level? Everytime we do something that offends God it is like we are betraying Jesus yet he is ready to forgive us even in the midst of our betrayl. Good relationships are built on trust and respect, but we all make mistakes and so in order for relationships to continue forgivness needs to enter the picture. Gos expects us to forgive others and he knows first hand how it feels to be betrayed. He has experienced betrayal that you and I will probbaly never experience yet he continues to forgive. Take a few moments to think about those that you may need to forgive for something they have done to you. Also think about the things that you may need to ask others for forgiveness for. Most importantly what in your life do you need to go to God with to ask him for forgiveness? Some things to read: Click here for other entries.
